Whether or not the name and music of Redwood Son has yet hit the big radar, this year’s “Best New Artist” of the Portland Music Awards is on the rise. Boasting a 20 Song double-disc debut album titled “The Lion’s Inside” he brings a dynamic versatility that crosses the borders of their West Coast Americana with hook-laden Roots-Rock and Alt. Country, while maintaining an authentic Universal “Pop” vibe. Recommended if you Like: Tom Petty, Citizen Cope, Ryan Adams.

Tremoloco @ Les Schwab Amphitheater
2:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Playing-Guitar

Tremoloco is an eclectic roots band from L.A., some might say purveyors of Gulf Coast Folklorico or Mexican Americana. Their songs tell stories firmly rooted in their beloved L.A. but clearly go beyond to places like Mexicali, Louisiana, Georgia, the Southwest, Laredo and the Yucatan and of course East L.A. Effortlessly, they cross pollinate several genres and styles such as Mexican Folk, Tex-Mex, Country, Norteno, Cumbias, Honky Tonk, Cajun, Zydeco, Blues and Roadhouse Rock n Roll. Recommended if you Like: Los Lobos, Wilco, Texas Tornados.

Marley’s Ghost @ Les Schwab Amphitheater
2:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Marley's-Ghost-Walking

Marley’s Ghost is nothing less than a national treasure, the capable inheritors of the archetypal Americana blueprint drawn up by The Band. As the L.A. Weekly aptly put it, “This West Coast [group] deftly, and frequently daffily, dashes across decades of American music to create a sound that’s steeped in tradition but never bogged down by traditionalism.” These guys can sing and play anything with spot-on feel, from reggae (hence the double-entendre moniker) to blues to stone country, which is what they’ve been doing – to the ongoing delight of a fervent cult that includes many of their fellow musicians – throughout their first quarter century as a working unit. Recommended if you Like: Jimmy Buffet, Ernest Tubb

They recruited keyboardist Patrick Glynn, who Zak has played with since he was ten, drummer Daniel Blum, who Jeremy met when he was sweeping the floors of a recording studio, and Rob Fidel, who Jeremy met at an open mic on the first day of college. As of now, they’re recording their debut EP, due out in September, as well as performing anywhere and everywhere from clubs to open mics to busking on the street. Recommended if you Like: Kings of Leon, Dawes, My Morning Jacket
